CPU overheating help!!?

just built a pc a few days ago and im playing some games and i realise the temp goes to like 88 C it gives a warning and everything.... its a i7 2600k not overclocked. the fan looks to be spinning lol... idle temps are around lower 40's. my case is thermaltake A60. could it be the fan is too slow or what could the problem be?
