Pharmaceutical companies treatment vs cure?

If the pharmaceutical companies can make money from 'treatments' then why would they ever offer a cure for something? From a business perspective it doesn't make any sense, you can make so much money from lifelong prescription of pills or treatments. So my question is how can society stop this problem? Do we need stronger regulation of these businesses?
